On Tuesday May 5th at 1130 Hillsborough Fire Companies 36 & 37 were dispatched mutual aid to Orlando Drive in Raritan Borough for a structure fire in a large abandon commercial structure. Stations 36 and 37 responded while station 38 remained in town to cover Hillsborough. Ladder 36 arrived on scene to find a very large abandon warehouse with a fire in the basement and smoke showing from all sides and the roof. Command advised all arriving units this was a vacant building for many years and that all operations will be exterior. The L36 crew reported in, joined the manpower pool, and immediately were put to work. Initially the crew was sent to the bravo side where they manned a 2 ½ hand line for suppression and created vent openings. The L36 crew was then ordered to the Alpha side to remove the boarded up windows creating additional vent spaces. After rehab, 36 crews were re-assigned to the Alpha side to place fans. 36 units cleared the scene at 1800. Raritan units remained on scene throughout the night and into the next day.
